The Workface consisting of compacted sand is being hacked away with a camp made tool. The tunnel was less than three feet square enabling only one man at a time to work at the face. Sand was hauled away in boxes mounted on a trolley which ran on a rail track. The three sections of the tunnel, dMded by two halfway houses, each had their own trolley.
