On September 14, 2001, the following correspondence was received by me from Michael Skeet in England. Michael is researching information at the Public Records Office (PRO) in Kew relating to his own father's service with 158 Squadron.
"A couple of snippets from records received
today from the PRO.
Firstly, on the same day (16/6/42) as my Dad was posted from 158 Sqn to 10
Sqn a Flt Lt Porter (70549) is listed as having arrived at 158 Sqn from 22
OTU. I wondered if this was your Pop.? Also a Sgt Patterson (R67304) from 22
OTU, is this J.R.P?
Also there is a listing for 21/7/42 showing ...... "Flt Lt Porter flew 4.15
sea search for Sgt Dillon without success. Aircraft of 16 Group also
searched without success. Op's called. 5 A/C called for attacked Duisburg
and 2 Nickels. Total op, hours flown - 28.56"
The above is further confirmation of the information contained in "Pop's Progress" and "Don Hall's Story".
