EAST MOOR 1/7/42 . Five aircraft were to have proceeded on night cross country flights. These were cancelled at the last moment on instructions from 4 Group. Weather:- Cloudy becoming fair with light periods this afternoon. Vis.:- 4-8 miles. .
2/7/42 .8 aircraft took part in cross country flights. W/Cdr. Stevens. D.F.C., returned from leave and reassumed command. Weather:- Widespread mist or fog with extensive patches of lifted fog at first, soon dispersing and becoming fair or fine. Vis:- Mainly 500-1500 yds at first but 3-6 miles locally.
3/7/42 . Weather:- Cloudy with rain this afternoon. Vis:- 5-10 miles. 2/7 miles in industrial areas.
4/7/42 . No flying day or night. A full day of ground training. Lectures by S/Ldr. Wilkerson and F/Lt. Lawson. Weather:- Unfit for flying all day, AM. and PM.
5/7/42 . A good day's flying training was carried out. 10 hrs.45 min. DAY on Nav. Trg. Formation and Air Firing (7 aircraft) 26 hrs.50 min. NIGHT CROSS COUNTRIES. (6 aircraft).
Weather:- Mainly cloudy with intermittent rain or drizzle Driffield and coast area.
Vis.:- 1-3 miles improving to 4-8 miles later in the day.
6/7/42 . Last official day of conversion training. 7 hours flying by DAY. 2 local 1 cross country. No night flying. Weather:- Mainly fair AM. and PM. Brief showers AM.
7/7/42 . Called for 4 nurseries. NFT's totalled 6 hrs. No other flying. Nurseries scrubbed early evening. Weather:- Occassional showers becoming more frequent during aftrenoon and evening. Local thunder. Vis.:- 1-4 miles at first impoving to 5-10 miles.
8/7/42.Called for 8 main and 4 nurseries (See operations diary raids no. 199 to 208) A total of 5.45 hrs. spent on N.F.T. S/Ldr. Hewitt returned early (wireless u/s.) NO SORTIE. Weather:- Occasional showers becoming more frequent in afternoon. Hail and thunder expected. Vis.:- 2-3 miles improving to 6-12 miles.
9/7/42.A quiet day after last night's operations. No flying. C.O. flew at night with H.C.F. testing new glide path indicator. Weather:- Occasional showers. Cloud 649/10th. Vis.:- 2-3 miles improving to 6-12 miles.
10/7/42.Called for ops. early AM. but scrubbed before 10.00 hrs. 1 hour 40 min. local flying. One C.Cty of 4.50 Baby A/Firing and Nav. Training. Weather:- Trough of low pressure over B. Isles all day but deleopment expected to take place in the south. Vis.:- 6-12 miles.
